Via ferrata in Galtür
Sports climbing in Tyrol
Two newly bolted via ferrata climbing routes can now take you up the peaks of the Flimspitze and the Greitspitze. Magnificient views over the Paznaun region and beyond are not only for experienced alpine climbers. Climbing in Tyrol is a one of a kind experience.
Due to the low difficulty grade of these via ferrata routes, both are also suitable for inexperienced climbers and children to climb. The way down is on a normal trail which is appropriate for every climber.
Two routes are especially attractive when climbing in Tyrol:
Flimspitze: difficulty grade A (easy)
From the Flimjochbahn cable car mountain station, it's just a short walk to you reach the base of the climbing route. The climb itself take approximately 25 minutes and the ascent is 120 metres up to the peak. At almost 3,000 metres, the Flimspitze is one of the highest elevations in the Silvretta regin and offers a truly spectacular view on clear days. The way back down is on a well-established path heading north, which leads to the Idalpe pass. A great way to start climbing in the Tyrolean Alps!
Greitspitze: difficulty grade B – C (easy with passages of intermediate difficulty)
From the Idjochbahn mountain station, go a short way by foot until you reach the base of the climbing route. From the west ridge of the Greitspitze, the newly built via ferrata climbing route will take you on a 200 metre ascent up to the peak. The climb takes approximately 40 minutes and is suitable for children with some experience and first-time via ferrata climbers. However, you should climb as part of a roped team. The way back down is no problem - you can take the Greitspitze access road back to the Idjochbahn mountain station.
