Travelling by Car to Galtür
This is how you get to Galtür in Tyrol by car simply and conveniently. Please pay attention to the information on motorways in Austria and any winter equipment that may be required.
Coming from Germany:
Driving on the S 16, the Arlbergschnellstraße, take exit Pians and keep driving on the Silvretta Bundesstraße (B 188) for about 30 km towards Galtür. Three routes will take you to the S 16 in Tyrol:
- To get to Galtür you take the German A 7 or A 95 heading south. The route takes you to the Fernpassbundesstraße (B 179) via Imst and Landeck to the motorway A 12 and onto the S 16 (Arlbergschnellstraße) to Pians.
- Take the German A 93 towards Innsbruck. The Austrian Inntal motorway (A 12) takes you via Kufstein, Innsbruck and Landeck to the S 16, the Arlbergschnellstraße, and on to Pians.
- Take the A 96 towards Lindau in Austria and get onto the A 14. Follow this motorway via Bregenz, Feldkirch and through the Arlberg tunnel to the S 16 and on to Pians. In summer you also have the option to exit the motorway at Bludenz and take the Silvretta Hochalpenstraße to Galtür.
Coming from Italy:
Driving on the S 16, the Arlbergschnellstraße, take exit Pians and keep on driving on the Silvretta Bundesstraße (B 188) for about 30 km towards Galtür. Two routes take you to the S 16 in Tyrol:
- Heading north on the motorway A 22 across the Brenner Pass, you take the Austrian A 13, then take the A 12 in Innsbruck and drive towards Bregenz to the S 16 and on to Pians.
- You enter Austria heading north on the SS 40 across the Reschenpass onto the B 180. The route takes you via Nauders and Landeck to the S 16 towards Bregenz and on to Pians.
Coming from Switzerland
You drive to Austria on the A 3 to Feldkirch or the A 1 to Lustenau and Dornbirn. In Austria, follow the A 14 towards Innsbruck. Follow this motorway through the Arlberg tunnel to the S 16 and on to Pians. Exit the S 16 in Pians and keep on driving for about 30 km on the Silvretta Bundesstraße (B 188) towards Galtür. In summer you also have the option to exit the motorway at Bludenz and take the Silvretta Hochalpenstraße to Galtür.

Please bear in mind that you require a toll sticker to drive on Austrian motorways and expressways. Should you be caught without one you will be facing severe fines. The toll stickers with an optional validity of ten days, two months or a whole year are available at service stations and tobacco kiosks.
