Summer Cable Cars Galtür
The Galtür Cable Car Birkhahnbahn is also open in summer. Why not start your walk or mountain bike tour at the top of the mountain?.
Grab your hiking boots, your mountain bike or your climbing gear and take a seat in the cable car. From Galtür, the Birkhahnbahn brings you to a height of 2050 metres, where magnificent walks to the Breitspitze, Ballunspitze to Zeinisjoch or to Kopsstausee present themselves. Mountain bikers will also find some exciting single trails and climbers are at the right place at the Silvapark Klettersteig (climbing path).
- Season: 05. July until 28 September 2008
- Operating times: 09:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and 12:45 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
You will find some hiking tips from Galtür Cable Cars here, corresponding signposts and informational markers can be found at the Birkhahnbahn top station.
- Birkhahnbahn mountain station–Kopsstausee–Zeinisjoch –Galtür, half day walk. Follow the path from the top station, to the west for approx. 1.5 km to the base station of the drag lift. From there, descend to the north (past the base station of the chair lift) down to the banks of the Kopsstausee (reservoir). Now, either walk westward over the Kops reservoir wall or eastwards along the waterside until you reach the tarmac Silvretta-Hochalpenstraße (Silvretta high alpine road). A tarmac road leads from Zeinisjoch to Galtür.
- Birkhahnbahn mountain station–Breiter Spitz (2203 m). A comfortable day walk. Easy! From the top station, westwards along the path to the base station of the drag lift. From there, further westward (upper path) until just under the cable of the cable car. Now climb southwards passing under the cable for approx. 150 metres height difference, to a plateau, walk on to the summit cross (erected by the Friends of the Mountain from Partenen, hiking badge, summit booklet). Best view of Montafon.
- Birkhahnbahn top station–Breiter Spitz–Lake Vallüla –Vallüla Alpe–Zeinisjoch–Galtür. Rewarding day walk. Good shoes are essential!
Take the same path as for walk no. 2 as far as Breitspitze, from there take the most southerly path, which is mostly level, for approx. 2 km to Lake Vallüla (approx. 2165 m.) Hardy types can bathe here if they wish. Return either the same way that you came, or take the path on the west side of the lake, down to Upper Vallüla Alpe. Refreshments on arrival. From the Alpe, a climb leads back to the Breitspitze. - Birkhahnbahn top station–Ballunspitze 2671 m); Level of difficulty II, partially without path. Day tour (can also be shorter for practiced walkers).
Starting at the top station of the Birkhahnbahn, follow the cable of the Ballunspitz lift until approx. 100 m below its top station. Now go on to the west, underneath the mountain’s rock flanks. A gorge filled with rubble opens out at the north edge of the mountain. Climbing tracks leading to the summit start here. The summit cross is situated approx. 10 metres under the main summit. It can only be reached by climbing (level of difficulty II, however somewhat exposed). The summit book is kept underneath the cross’s rock. Please pack away again carefully. Magnificent view of the village. Return the same way as you came or climb down through the rubble gorge in a north westerly direction to the Kopsstausee (Kops reservoir). - Climbing tour on the Ballunspitze over the north-east ridge or the north-east flank. Level of difficulty III-IV Either: with a mountain guide – information from the Tourist Association or: following the cable of the Ballunspitz lift to the top station. Then, approx 200 metres uphill in the adjoining gorge, now go left and sheer over to the ridge.
