Tips and tricks for your hiking holiday in Galtür

Hiking Holiday in Galtür, Tyrol

Hiking is supposed to be fun, uncomplicated and as safe as possible. Here are some tips and tricks for your hiking tours in Galtür:

Always take a first aid kit with you when you embark on hikes in Galtür. For minor injuries and blisters and to provide first emergency aid, you should definitely enclose the following supplies:

Make sure you carry enough to drink and eat when you go mountain hiking in Tyrol. Water and fruit juices are your best bet when it comes to beverages, and remember that children do need to drink more than adults. In terms of energy snacks, opt for health bars and fresh fruit. You’ll have to take along entire meal packs if you do not have the opportunity to stop for food at a cabin or restaurant on your particular hike.

Take along and use the hiking map, available free of charge at the Tourism Office Galtür. It will keep you on the right track and tell you the names of the numerous peaks you see as you admire the panoramic views stretching before your very eyes.

The feet and shoes of mountain hikers require special attention. Take a foot bath the night before your hike and moisturise your feet with deer tallow cream after the bath – it will make your skin more elastic and far less prone to blisters. Your hiking shoes should be ankle height, water resistant, breathable and have anti-slip soles.

Make sure you book a sleeping cot in the cabins as soon as possible. Before you begin your tour, call the cabin to make absolutely sure you will have accommodations. The team at the Tourism Office will be pleased to make the call on your behalf. When staying in cabins please observe the quiet time from 10.00 PM to 06.00 AM – be mindful of the needs of others.

When hiking, stay away from cattle and other grazing animals. These animals are frequently not used to being touched by strangers and may respond with fear or aggression. If you have to walk through a grazing meadow, please make sure you close the gates. Pay special attention to the conduct of your children and the behaviour of your dogs to ensure that your hike will not include any mishaps or even accidents.

Hiking sticks make walking on level ground, on inclines or declines easier on your knees and joints. Do not walk too fast if you are going down moderately steep mountain routes, as your steps might be too hard, which increases the stress your joints are exposed to.
