PRESS RELEASE
ALIEN INVASION IN ISCHGL
At the 16th Ischgl snow-sculpting competition "Shapes in White", from 12th to 16th January 2009, it's all about aliens. "Close encounters of the third kind" are guaranteed.
E.T under the lifts, Alf beside the slopes and unidentified flying objects all over the skiing area: The 16th Ischgl snow-sculpting competition "Shapes in White" is being run under the motto "Aliens". There are no limits to the artists' imaginations when the Silvretta Arena in the Tyrolean lifestyle ski metropolis becomes an open air gallery from 12th to 16th January. Ten pairs of international artists will be hammering and carving several meter high sculptures in the snow and realizing their own personal notions of "encounters of the third kind". The huge sculptures can be admired throughout the entire skiing area, on and next to the slopes - until the spring sunshine arrives and sends the aliens back home. However, in Ischgl that won't be until the beginning of May; there's guaranteed snow until then.
Make way for E.T. and Co.
Professional sculptors from throughout the world are already sending their designs to the jury in Ischgl ahead of the competition. The ten best will be invited to the elimination stage and to realise their creations. The aim here is to use the submitted sketches to create masterpieces within 5 days in the middle of Silvretta's mountain scenery - using nothing but snow. Alien fans and snow enthusiasts have the chance to be there, live, and watch the artists at work. The awards ceremony for the sculptures will take place on 16th January.
