Reservoirs
Reservoirs in the Silvretta Region
The reservoirs in the vicinity of Galtuer not only provide electrical power. Recharge your own batteries with a boat trip or a hike.
The Silvretta mountains store an enormous amount of energy. The reservoirs provide the hydro power to generate environmentally friendly electrical power. You can do a lot of interesting things when visiting the reservoirs. The Silvretta reservoir is best suited for this. You get to the lake directly from Galtuer via the Silvretta High Alpine Road (Hochalpenstraße).
In the summer season you can book a boat tour. The boat is the only one in Europe to be used for commercial purposes at an elevation greater than 2,000 metres. There is a solid trail that takes you around the lake in about two hours. You can also take the boat half-way and hike back the other half. With a fishing licence – available at toll gates, for example – you can also fish in the lake. A cross-country ski trail leads across the lake in winter, provided the ice is thick enough.
The Vermunt reservoir is not far from the Silvretta reservoir. During a stopover there you can get to a tower in the lake via the dam. The Luenersee is already located in the neighbouring Vorarlberg region, where the “Douglashütte” is especially popular with hikers as Alpine inn and a place to stay the night. A tavern and small campground are waiting for you at the Kops reservoir during your holidays in Tyrol.
The reservoirs are a popular destination in the region when enjoying your holidays in Tyrol. The odd stopover really pays off when driving along the Silvretta High Alpine Road (Hochalpenstraße).
