Mountain sport and climbing in Galtür
The mountains in the Silvretta group also provide ideal conditions for climbers; the new via ferrata route in Silvapark is especially exciting.
Der Klettersteig Silvapark ist für Kletterer eine tolle Herausforderung. Der Urgesteinklettersteig The via ferrata route in Silvapark provides a superb challenge for climbers. The via ferrata route consists of pre-historic rock and is graded as being moderately-difficult to difficult and has recently been secured with small mechanical aids. Difficulty level is mostly B/C, however at two sites the via ferrata is also level C/D. A north-facing wall takes climbers on a steep route to the summit where there is an impressive view to the glaciers in the Silvretta and in the Rätikon.
The Alpinarium in the centre of Galtür is a symbiosis of an avalanche protection wall and an exhibition area. The rear side of the stone wall is also used as a climbing wall and, thanks to the huge size of the construction, it is the largest natural stone climbing wall in Austria. There is also an indoor bouldering wall in the Alpinarium. This means that even when the weather is bad, and in the winter time, climbing enthusiasts’ needs are catered for.
There are of course also lots of climbing opportunities in the mountains for expert climbers, and also for beginners. Beginners are able to call upon the services of experienced mountain guides and Alpine schools in Galtür, which will make your excursion into the mountains safer.
