The Paznaun valley for dog lovers
Dogs are welcome all year round in Ischgl, Galtür, Kappl and See. The Paznaun Valley is considered a particularly dog-friendly valley: the pleasant high mountain climate is ideal for four-legged friends, which is why grazing animals also feel at home here in their natural environment. Whether hiking on marked trails or cross-country skiing on perfectly groomed trails, your dog can accompany you. Dog-friendly accommodation is available for restful nights, and selected restaurants will take good care of both you and your furry friend.
To ensure that you and your four-legged companion can enjoy your holiday in Paznaun without any worries, we ask you to observe a few important rules. Many hiking trails and cross-country ski trails run across private property and are only accessible with the consent of the landowners. Respectful coexistence between humans, animals and nature is therefore essential to ensure the long-term quality of the excellent network of hiking trails and cross-country ski trails.
It is particularly important not to leave the marked paths and to maintain a safe distance of 20 to 50 metres when encountering grazing animals. Avoid frightening the animals and, as a precaution, keep your dog on a lead – preferably a short one – when herds are restless.
If you would like to take the cable car to the summit in comfort, your dog is also welcome. With a valid ski pass or Silvretta Card Premium, your dog can even travel for free.
Please note that dogs must wear a muzzle on cable cars and public transport. Appropriate muzzles are available from Sport Walter in the Galtür community centre.
Transporting dogs on mountain railways
Bergbahnen Galtür
Dogs are only permitted on the Alpkogelbahn cable car if they are wearing a muzzle and are kept on a lead. Dogs are not permitted to run free.
Seilbahn Ischgl
- Summer: Dogs are not permitted on chairlifts. Dogs may be transported on the Silvretta, Fimbabahn or Twinliner lifts if they are muzzled and kept on a leash. Dogs are not permitted to run free.
- Winter: Dogs may be transported on the Silvretta, Fimba and Pardatschgrad cable cars if they are muzzled and kept on a leash. Dogs are not permitted on chairlifts. Dogs are not permitted to run free on the slopes.
Bergbahnen Kappl
Dogs are only permitted in gondola lifts and chairlifts if they are wearing a muzzle and are on a leash. Dogs are not permitted to run free.
Bergbahnen See
- Summer: Dogs may be transported in the gondola without a muzzle or leash.
- Winter: Dogs may be transported in gondola lifts and chairlifts without a muzzle or leash. Note: When travelling on chairlifts, please ask the mountain railway staff first. Dogs are not allowed to run free in summer or winter!

- Dogs wearing a bite-proof muzzle may be transported free of charge if they can be accommodated without causing any nuisance or inconvenience to other passengers.
- Small dogs must be carried, large dogs must be kept on a short leash.
- Passengers must supervise their animals. Animals may not be transported on seats. If the bus is full, the driver may refuse to allow them on board.

In Ischgl, Galtür, Kappl and See, there are numerous routes throughout the year that are ideal for hiking and winter hiking with dogs. Detailed tour descriptions provide information on trail conditions and difficulty levels and help you select dog-friendly tours.
Tips for hiking with your dog:
- Observe leash requirements: Leashes are mandatory on certain routes or sections – it is best to always have your leash with you.
- Check infrastructure: Find out in advance whether there are water sources or places to stop for refreshments; if not, take sufficient drinking water with you.
- Plan encounters: Other dogs or grazing animals may be present – it is particularly important that your dog behaves calmly and in a controlled manner.

During the winter months from the beginning of December to the end of April, dogs must be kept on a leash on all cross-country trails and winter hiking trails according to the current trail map of the Paznaun-Ischgl Tourism Association.
