The trail starts at the Alpkogelbahn mountain station at 1,970 metres above sea level and winds its way down through almost 100 switchbacks in an open alpine setting. Initially, it leads through low vegetation and alpine meadows before transitioning into the lush valley pastures. Riders will pass the Fluchthorn Alm and the Weiberhimml, two scenic landmarks along the route. Thanks to its gentle gradient and well-designed layout, this trail is ideal for families and beginners.

The Kli Zeinis Trail is a great addition to the Alpkogel Trail. It starts just below the Fluchthorn Alm and winds through several curves along the open mountain landscape. A key highlight of this trail is the Zeinisbach, which riders cross via wooden bridges, offering spectacular views along the way. The trail reconnects with the Alpkogel Trail below the Weiberhimml. With its flowing design and moderate descent, it’s an excellent choice for beginners.

The Birkhahn Trail begins at switchback 13 of the Faulbrunn Trail and offers an exciting mix of flow and technical challenges. With around 20 switchbacks and demanding sections, it’s a great alternative for experienced riders.

For a more challenging alternative to the Alpkogel Trail, the Birkhahn Trail is the perfect option. It begins at Switchback 13 of the Faulbrunn Trail, near the Ballunspitzbahn valley station at 1,930 metres above sea level. Riders can access the trail via the Faulbrunn Trail or a service road from the Alpkogelbahn mountain station. With around 20 switchbacks, fast descents, and a more technical course, the Birkhahn Trail offers the right mix of flow and difficulty. Below the Kopserstraße, it merges into the Alpkogel Trail, making it easy to combine both routes.
