Atmospheric grey tones, record-breaking spirits and pure enjoyment of nature: another record number of participants at the 52nd Silvretta Ferwall March

With perfect hiking weather, Galtür was transformed into a mecca for hiking enthusiasts on Saturday, 23 August 2025. The 52nd Silvretta Ferwall March attracted more people than ever before to the impressive mountain world between the Silvretta and Verwall groups: 1,204 participants set off to experience the beauty of the Paznaun Alps on four varied routes – from the family-friendly 13.5-kilometre route to the challenging marathon distance of 42.2 kilometres and 1,779 metres of elevation gain.

The clear mountain air, blooming alpine meadows and sweeping panoramic views, combined with perfect hiking weather, created a special atmosphere. Along the routes, numerous refreshment stations offering regional delicacies were manned by over 100 volunteers, who made the day unforgettable for the participants. The traditional event was organised by SC Silvretta Galtür under the leadership of chairman Andreas Kathrein.

Four paths, one destination. Hiking in a duel with the mountains.

Whether passionate mountaineers, leisurely hikers or families with children – there was something for everyone at the Silvretta Ferwall March. The focus was not on athletic competition, but on sharing the experience in a unique natural setting. Nevertheless, there was reason to celebrate in the ballroom that evening: the oldest participants – Rolf Klinge (born in 1935) and Margarete Riedel (born in 1937) – were honoured at the grand award ceremony, impressively proving that hiking knows no age limits. The challenge cup in the group competition went to the Hotel Alpina with 84 participants, followed by the Berghotel Rasis (52) and the Hotel Landle (45).

Mountain sports, music and special gestures: an unforgettable Silvretta Ferwall March 2025

Musical entertainment provided by two live bands, a grand raffle with numerous instant prizes, and the special gesture of having the medals made by sheltered workshops rounded off the day. The atmosphere was exuberant, the feedback from participants was consistently positive, and the close cooperation with partners and sponsors once again guaranteed a perfect execution.
