E-Bike World Championship thrills over 1,500 participants in Ischgl & Galtür

The E-Bike World Championship for everyone, where all participants have the chance to become world champions, was held for the fifth time this year in Ischgl and Galtür. The sporting highlight was the ELITE race. Somewhat surprisingly, Austria's Lisa Schüttler won the gold medal. In the men's race, professional cyclist Daniel Geismayr from Vorarlberg triumphed.

From 4 to 6 September, the E-Bike World Championship for everyone took place for the fifth time in Ischgl and Galtür – a unique sporting event where professionals and amateur athletes compete side by side for medals. Over 1,500 participants from 18 nations took up the challenge. In fantastic conditions, exciting competitions, prominent participants and a varied supporting programme ensured enthusiasm among athletes and spectators alike.

Austria rejoices: Gold for Daniel Geismayr and Lisa Schüttler

In the elite category, several favourites started the race in the men's event. These included last year's world champion Linus Gerber from Switzerland, Germany's Daniel Klemme and the two Austrians Philipp Handl and Daniel Geismayr. For Geismayr from Vorarlberg, this is his first time competing in the E-Bike World Championship. He continues to ride professionally for Team Vorarlberg on the road and also specialises in gravel, where he is ranked in the top ten in the World Series. Geismayr was at the front of the pack right from the start, repeatedly swapping places at the front with Argentine René Gonzalo Lifona Deriaz. Tyrolean Philipp Handl had bad luck right at the start of the race. When the motor on his e-bike failed, he had to complete almost the entire course without additional assistance. Halfway through the 45-kilometre course, Daniel Geismayr pulls away from the Argentine and quickly increases his lead. German Daniel Klemme remains in third place. At the front, it is ultimately a clear race. After 1 hour and 31 minutes, Daniel Geismayr confidently wins the gold medal, finishing 2 ½ minutes ahead of Argentine Lifona Deriaz. Daniel Klemme came in third. This time, Swiss rider Linus Gerber only managed to finish in fourth place.

Daniel Geismayr (AUT): ‘It was a new experience with the e-bike. Nevertheless, I gave it my all and rode at 400 watts. I'm delighted with the title and what a great day it was.’

In the women's race, Austria's Lisa Schüttler and three-time world champion Barbara Oberdorfer from South Tyrol pulled away from the rest of the field right from the start. Somewhat surprisingly, however, Schüttler was always a few hundred metres ahead of Oberdorfer. And in the final, the Kleinwalsertal native was in a class of her own. After 1 hour and 38 minutes, Lisa Schüttler won the gold medal ahead of Barbara Oberhofer (+05:03) and Susanne Kienzle (+05:22) from Germany.

Lisa Schüttler (AUT): ‘It was very emotional for me. Everything just fell into place. In the end, I paced myself well. I am overjoyed.’

World champions in many categories

Under the motto ‘Anyone can become a world champion’, there were numerous winners in the respective categories: the event included the technically demanding elite course and the open course suitable for everyone aged ten and above; from 2025, the new ‘open advanced’ class will complement the range of options for advanced riders. Several well-known professional athletes also took part. In addition to snowboard world champion Andreas Prommegger and Super-G world champion Hannes Reichelt, former national football player Walter ‘Schoko’ Schachner and Super-G Olympic champion Sigrid Wolf were among the enthusiastic participants.

The event was organised by the Paznaun-Ischgl Tourism Association and the E-Bike World Federation:

Alexander von der Thannen, Chairman of the Paznaun-Ischgl Tourism Association:

"The E-Bike World Championship for everyone impressively demonstrated the sporting prowess and enthusiasm that come together in Paznaun. The successful event is a strong signal for summer tourism – and we are already looking forward to welcoming the world's elite and recreational athletes back to Ischgl and Galtür from 3 to 5 September 2026. This combination of sport, nature and community makes our region a unique meeting place on the international cycling calendar."

DDr. Markus Mitterdorfer, CEO E-Bike World Federation:

"We can look back on an all-round successful event. The unique conditions in Ischgl and Galtür have once again proven that this is the perfect location for the E-Bike World Championship for everyone. The joy and sporting camaraderie of the participants make this event something very special. It is precisely this mixture of challenge and enthusiasm that ensures that the E-Bike World Championship for everyone continues to grow year after year."

E-bike fox hunt kicks things off

The E-bike Fox Hunt took place on Thursday as part of the E-Bike World Championship. ÖSV cross-country skiing star Teresa Stadlober took on the role of the fox for the third time, racing her road bike up the Idalp ahead of over 80 e-bikers. Only a few were able to catch up with Stadlober, who also used the stay for her cross-country skiing training on rollers.

Varied supporting programme

Around the E-Bike World Championship for everyone, participants and visitors enjoyed a varied e-bike supporting programme. Among other things, there was a large e-bike EXPO with 40 exhibitors from the cycling scene, an EXPO Fun Challenge with skill exercises and a large raffle, with the main prize being an e-bike from Simplon (bike partner of the Paznaun – Ischgl region).

Save the date

The next E-Bike World Championship for everyone will take place from 3 to 5 September 2026. Registration is already open, and an e-bike will be raffled off among the first 333 registrations.
