The region of Paznaun

Award-winning pleasure

The region of Paznaun stands for ecological sustainability and high product quality. No wonder that Paznaun’s “Almkäse” (mountain cheese) even received an award from Genuss Region Österreich! Mature, pale yellow and with pea-sized holes, the famous cheese has a mild to savoury aroma. Produced from the best valley and mountain pasture milk, it is matured for six weeks until it reaches its distinctive, natural flavours. A must for cheese lovers!

Traditional crafts and select ingredients directly from the farm are what makes Galtür’s delicacies so special. In addition to the award-winning Almkäse, the region is also known for other mouth-watering, homemade delights like bacon, sausage and honey. You should definitely try some of these savoury treats during your next stop at one of Galtür’s mountain huts, inns or gourmet restaurants!

Enjoy a truly delightful holiday in Galtür, full of old traditions and handmade, local specialties. A natural delight!

Alpine Cheese Olympics

A hearty pleasure

Every year, Galtür hosts the International Alpine Cheese Olympics. Never heard of them? Then it’s about time! According to Olympic tradition, the best raw milk cheeses of the Alpine region are awarded gold, silver or bronze.

More than 3,000 guests get to witness how 100 Alpine dairymen from Austria, Germany, South Tyrol and Switzerland present their best specialties to the Olympic Cheese Committee as well as a kids’ jury. The cheeses are rated according to their taste, quality and use of regional ingredients. The big prize: the golden harp!

Gourmet tip: You don’t have to be a jury member to try the delicacies! Guests can sample and purchase all cheeses on the day of the event!
